Spring Term 2018—Newsletter Five

2nd February 2018

Dear Parents,

Music Assemblies

On Monday and Wednesday morning, we had a great number of super performances in our Music Assemblies; well done to Thomas (guitar), Gretel (saxophone), Edward and Theo (violin duet), Micci (piano), Oscar, Alice, Edward and Alex in Class 1, Kamil, Georgio and Kartik (djembe drum), Roya and Klara (hand percussion song), Scarlett, Henry, Violanda, Merrill (piano) and Jean (recorder). Class 2 performed an interesting and colourful assembly about their Central American Geography topic on Mexico, with a focus on the Christian celebration of the ‘Day of the Dead’. The hall was decked with samples of their Papel Picados artwork and traditional Mexican decorations. What a confident and informative festival style assembly! I am delighted to attach the Class 6’s Newsletter with this week’s Insider, which I know you will enjoy reading—what a busy, enthusiastic and hardworking class they are!

Garage Band reported by Garth, Director of Music

Garage Band has had a wonderful beginning, with six pupils from Class 5 and 6 completing different assignments each week. At this stage, our team are learning to record midi instruments using USB keyboards, layering specific instrument tracks and editing midi notes recorded. We definitely have some future songwriters and composers in our midst!

Class 2 reported by Jennifer

Class 2 Class 2

We have been learning about ‘Dias de los Muertos’ (The Day of the Dead). Ana came in and shared her knowledge about the festival, showing us a PowerPoint, how to make Papel Picado paper decorations and with Mimosa’s help, we learnt how to dance in Mexican style and we got to decorate biscuits! It was such a fun day! Look out for Class 2’s newsletter in two weeks to learn even more.

Class 1—First Aid Mini Lifesavers session reported by Suzanne

On Wednesday 24th January, Class 1 learned to be Mini Lifesavers. They learned how to dial 999 in an emergency (or 122 from any European Country to connect you to their own emergency service line) and give their address and postcode. Some children have homework to learn their postcode, just in case! They then went on to learn how to place anyone in the recovery position and took turns practising this on each other. Finally, as we have been learning about the Great Fire of London, the children learned how to treat burns. It is important to run a burn under cool water (not so cold that it is painful) for 10 minutes. They found out that adults could make mistakes here and think 2 minutes is enough. They all had a wonderful time learning to be Mini Lifesavers!

Parents’ to meet the Governors

Parents are invited on Wednesday 7th March 8.30–9.30am at Beaufort House to meet the Governors if they so wish. It will be a very informal occasion to mingle, have a cup of coffee/tea and a pastry.

Cameron House Father’s 11 a-side Football match invitation

There is a Cameron House Father’s 11-a-side football match vs Knightsbridge School Father’s at Burton Court on Saturday 3rd March 2018. The match will start at 1pm and there is a match fee of £20, which can be paid on the day. This is always a fun match, which is played in great spirit and is supported well by the Cameron House parents and children. After the match, we will head to the Coopers Arms for a post-match analysis and refreshments. If you are interested in playing in this match then please confirm via email

Spring Fair

The FoCH team warmly invite all interested and enthusiastic parents who would like to offer their support and get involved in the Spring Fair 2018. Please contact your Class Reps, Becky Egea or any of the FoCH team. Please also contact them if you have any questions. Thank you for your support.

Charity Event this term

The children will have brought home a letter and sponsorship form explaining our fun charity event this term. Any funds raised over the next two terms will go towards Mary’s Meals and SEA LIFE Trust. The event will take place in school time during the normal sports lesson. The Lower School event will take place on Tuesday 27th February and The Upper School event will take place on Thursday 1st March. I would be grateful if you would encourage your child to take responsibility for getting friends and family to sponsor them. The children will have until the day of their event to raise money. There will be a prize for an Upper school pupil and a Lower School pupil who raises the most amount for the charities. Once the event is over I would ask you to help your child collect their sponsorship money and return it with the sponsorship form to school in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on the front by Friday 9th March 2018. Thank you very much for your help.

Parent/Teacher Evening Individual Appointments

We are pleased to inform you that in preparation for our upcoming Parents’ Evenings, there are appointment sheets on the Parent’s Notice Board in the Entrance Hall for you to sign up for a convenient time, starting at 4.00pm on the first evening and 5.30pm on the second evening. Parents will have a choice of dates and times to come to discuss their child’s progress with the Class Teacher (please see dates below). Please sign up for one of these days. We hope you will be able to find a suitable time on the given evenings. Please liaise with Class Teachers if you have any “sibling clashes” and they can help arrange convenient times for you. We ask that in kind consideration to others, parents keep to their allotted times during these appointments to avoid long queues, missed sibling appointments and overrunning. Please note that unfortunately this is not an occasion when children are able to attend or can be supervised at school. Thank you for your support.

  • Wednesday 21st February (4.00pm–5.30pm) for all Classes (CLUBS CANCELLED)
  • Thursday 22nd February (5.30–7.00pm) for all Classes (clubs run as normal)

  • I really enjoy Art lessons and recorder club. The teachers are very nice and since it is a small school, everybody knows each other and it is really friendly.
